Society for taxi promotion in Gran Canaria (SOCOMTAXI)
The Society for taxi promotion in Gran Canaria was founded in 2007 with the target of promoting taxi services in the south of Gran Canaria, setting up a central management unit to working with the latest technologies, for example the GPRS for communication and location via satellite to offer a faster service and less waiting time for our customers to be attended. In addition, our customers have the posibility to pay by credit card in the taxi. Just dial the same telephone number for ordering a taxi in the six councils that take part in Socomtaxi (Telde, Ingenio, Agüimes, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Mogán).
Our cars are equipped with a taximeter and a screen providing the data of your ride. The taxis are located via GPS (satellite) and are connected to our central unit with the help of a network of mobile data (GPRS) with a very high reliability connection between the central unit and the taxis.
Our control centre is operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, being run by 16 operators in the different shifts.
If you have already requested our service, you can order a taxi from a landline telephone via our automatic service-line. You just have to push the asterisk key and dial your housenumber ?? after you have been asked to do so. In this case you can save some time without the need of being attended by an operator.
You can also ask for our service or make your booking on our web-site, for which you would need a user ID and a password previously.
This society was born encouraged by The Cooperation of Taxi-Drivers of San Agustín and The Cooperation of Taxis of Mogán, who raised it to The Taxi Regional Federation of Canarias to optimize the resources they already had at their disposal.
On the16th of February in 1991, The Taxi Regional Federation of Canarias was established in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, setting up their head office in The Cooperation of Puerto de la Cruz in Tafuriaste Street 1, where taxi-drivers from all over the islands were represented.
As it is said in their statutes, the aim of this institution is to manage the common interests of the member organizations, the collaboration with other related organizations and the formulation of different proposals to the administrations about reforms for the enhancement and development of the activities in the sector.
The main target of our organization is to guarantee the proper activity of each taxi in each council area where taxi licence was given.
Nowadays, the federation is formed by over 2100 taxi-drivers and more than 40 councils from all the islands, apart from El Hierro. The main management system of the federation practically has not been changed since it was created, although it is now working together closer. Not only the operations of the federation have been enhanced, but also its properties: we now own an office in Gran Canaria, on Herrera Street 12, building number 10, Arinaga Retail Park, as well as three systems for the management of the fleet of cars, two in Tenerife and one in Gran Canaria, which are used by the taxi drivers at work.
